John has been teaching in and around Salisbury for the last 10 years.
Bishop Wordsworth’s School
He runs two hour portrait and lifedrawing evening classes for adults in the purpose built art rooms at Bishop Wordsworth’s School in Salisbury. These classes are suitable for both beginners, and the more experienced artist. Tuition is tailored to each student, helping to develop their observational skills whilst retaining individual style. Portrait classes have a different sitter each week, and the Lifedrawing class uses a variety of models. The classes are held during school term times, the Lifeclass on a Monday evening and the Portrait class on Wednesday evenings. Both are 7pm to 9pm and prices are £13 per session. The dates for next term are…
Lifeclass Apr 24th, May 8th, 15th, 22nd 4 weeks £52
Portrait Class Apr 26th, May 3rd, 10th, 17th, 24th 5 weeks £65
On Tuesday afternoons at Laverstock Village Hall there is a more relaxed general art class. There are even tea and biscuits! Here you can paint or draw using whichever medium you chose, and there is always time to socialise with friends. Most work from photographic references, but there is always a still life set up to challenge the adventurous. These classes run through most of the year. In the summer months they are replaced by art workshops … for example looking at specific subjects or aspects, like reflections and shadows, or pastel painting techniques. There are usually a couple of outdoor opportunities (weather permitting). Last year it was the Laverstock community farm, and the gardens at Little Durnford Manor. The Laverstock classes are from 2.00pm to 4.30pm and cost £8 per session. There are short breaks for Christmas, Easter and Summer Holidays.
